Zeekr has just revealed its 9X large plug-in hybrid super SUV in China along with its price, and it’s clear Range Rover is in its sights.

Fully electric and hybrid vehicles, especially those from China, have shifted expectations of performance, prestige and price over the past few years. Now Zeekr appears to have raised the benchmark higher with the 9X large SUV — its first hybrid vehicle.

The 9X wears Zeekr’s familiar upright grille that we’ve seen on the brand’s 009 people mover, but the tall SUV has a setback cabin and roofline similar to its obvious intended rival — Range Rover.

The styling is bold and undoubtedly upmarket, but looking at it’s performance figures appear impressive.

In a line-up consisting of four grades a top-of-the-range ‘Hyper’ version boasts 1000kW from a combination of electric motors and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, with a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.1 seconds.

Two battery capacities are currently available — a 55kWh and a 70kWh unit — with electric only driving range varying depending on the grade. The larger of the batteries offers up to 380km (CLTC).

The 9X is built on Geely’s SEA-S platform, which uses 900V architecture, with Zeekr claiming a super-fast charge time of 20-80 percent in 8.5 minutes.

Prices in China start at the equivalent of A$97,000 and include lavish standard features such as a 17-inch OLED screen and leather upholstery over three rows and six seats.

CarsGuide has reached out to Zeekr Australia to find out if and when the 9X will be arriving locally is awaiting a response.

Zeekr’s Australia line-up is currently made up of fully electric models and includes the little X SUV, the mid-sized 7X SUV and 009 people mover.
