The 2025 Ryder Cup will definitely be one for the books. Europe won away in New York for the first time since 2012 as they had record-dominance in the first two days over foursomes and four balls.
Team USA almost caused a great comeback as they were one win away from drawing with Europe and 1.5 points away from winning it all, as Europe only picked up one win in singles competition. However, Shane Lowry held his putt on 18 to secure Europe the Ryder Cup.
However, this year’s edition of the Ryder Cup will likely be remembered for the crowd trouble, which disrupted large parts of the competition, especially on the Saturday four-ball session, where extra course security was called to follow Rory McIlroy’s and Shane Lowry’s group as the New York crowd hurled abuse at the pair.

Rory McIlroy’s wife, Erica, was also subject to abuse as a video emerged of a drink being thrown at her as she made her way through the course at Bethpage Black. It was a large black mark on what should’ve been a great weekend of golf.
It’s something no American fan is proud of, especially American golfers, including Tom Watson. The five-time Open winner is a legend of the Ryder Cup, winning it three times as a player and once as a Team USA captain back in 1993.

Watson took to Twitter to congratulate the Europeans, but also wanted to say sorry for the way crowd in New York behaved. ‘I’d like to apologise for the rude and mean-spirited behaviour from our American crowd at Bethpage. As a former player, Captain and as an American, I am ashamed of what happened.’
It’s fair to say the crowd’s abuse made Europe’s victory all the sweeter for them, and they celebrated long into the night in New York. All of this has definitely made the next edition at Adare Manor all the more juicy.
